Overview

The ASU Mathematics and Science Teacher Fellows Program is a summer program, currently in its fourth year, for teachers funded by Science Foundation Arizona and led by Robert Culbertson with co-principal investigators Janet Bond-Robinson, Albert Brown, Marilyn Carlson, and Pat Thompson. Eight teachers during the summer of 2010 (June 21 - July 16) spend their mornings in ASU science research laboratories and spend their afternoons in a four-week on-campus program that aims to bring cutting-edge science and pedagogy research into Arizona classrooms. Teachers will continue working on their projects for an accumulated total of one week during the fall semester.

Goals

  1. Fellows are immersed in a variety of research groups in surface reactivity, nanobiophysics, nanosurfaces, and nanoparticles.
  2. Discussions with mentors in the research group and MSTF peers while at ASU.
  3. Development and implementation of a 4-5 day set of novel activities. A non-literal translation of the research into developmentally appropriate work for their students. The activities also follow the spirit of the Arizona state curriculum standards.
